{"id":18371,"date":"2019-07-03T15:28:34","date_gmt":"2019-07-03T14:28:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=18371"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:56:03","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:56:03","slug":"tayside-pharmacy-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=18371","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;People are fed up&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bFed up\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Scottish pharmacy workers will go on strike if progress is not made in a long running pay dispute at a meeting between Unite officials and NHS bosses tomorrow (July 4).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NHS Tayside pharmacy support workers voted by 100 per cent in a ballot with a 90 per cent turnout in favour of strike action and action short of strike.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The dispute relates to a failure by NHS Tayside to acknowledge the duties of pharmacy support workers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Due to a flawed job evaluation scheme, a number of grading issues have arisen in <a href=\"unitelive.org\/tag\/nhs\">NHS<\/a> Tayside since 2009 which has consequently resulted in pharmacy support workers being paid at a lower grade than they should be.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Workplace rep Gary Niblock, who has been a pharmacy worker for two decades, said the workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 patience with the trust\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s management is running out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve argued for years that we should get more for the job we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re doing. We amassed the points we needed under (the trust\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s pay policy) but there was always some obstacle put in the way.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bPeople are fed up. We done everything that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s been required of us: filled in evaluations, questionnaires, job descriptions, resubmitted stuff. It just seems there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always more and more hoops to jump through \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ridiculous.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite met with senior management last Friday (28 June), including the chief executive and chairman of NHS Tayside, where degrees of progress were made on the substantive points of the <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/tag\/pay\/\">pay<\/a> dispute.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both parties agreed to reconvene talks tomorrow, with NHS Tayside chief executive Grant Archibald saying the trust was seeking to avoid any industrial action and \u00e2\u20ac\u015blooking forward to meeting with Unite representatives again\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the outcome of the meeting, Unite will either call off the prospective <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/tag\/industrial-action\/\">industrial action<\/a> or serve notice of industrial action with continuous action starting from Monday, July 22.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional industrial officer Susan Robertson said the decision to vote for strike action \u00e2\u20ac\u015billustrates the deep frustrations and anger our members feel at their mistreatment by NHS Tayside\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite would like to state that we don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t take industrial action lightly and we are mindful that patients and their families would be affected.
