{"id":18416,"date":"2019-07-11T14:47:41","date_gmt":"2019-07-11T13:47:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=18416"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:56:02","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:56:02","slug":"st-mungos-strike-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=18416","title":{"rendered":"St. Mungo&#8217;s strike threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Crunch talks between Unite and the homeless charity St. Mungo\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s are set to take place tomorrow (July 12) at the conciliation service Acas in a long running dispute over job security and attacks to workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 terms and conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite is urging St. Mungo\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s senior management to engage constructively in the talks to avoid a ballot for strike action of over 500 members at the charity. Unite members provide help and support for homeless people in Brighton, Bristol and London.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to Unite, there is growing disquiet among St. Mungo\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s workers over breaches to agreements which the union says are effectively forcing experienced staff \u00e2\u20ac\u0098out of the door\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and harming services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to unilateral cuts to annual leave for workers working shifts of more than seven and half hours in duration, workers are also unhappy at the \u00e2\u20ac\u0098draconian\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 use of disciplinary procedures and St. Mungo\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision to withhold pay for employees attending union meetings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The looming possibility of industrial action follows a recent employment tribunal ruling that found St. Mungo\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s had victimised a former staff member over an equal pay claim. A remedy hearing to discuss compensation is pencilled in for August 6.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It also follows reports that St. Mungo\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shared client information with immigration enforcement agencies without client consent.
