{"id":18452,"date":"2019-07-15T16:50:31","date_gmt":"2019-07-15T15:50:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=18452"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:56:01","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:56:01","slug":"lincolnshire-health-visitors-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=18452","title":{"rendered":"Health visitors&#8217; pay fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Health visitors employed by Lincolnshire county council are striking for 48 hours from today (July 15) over not getting paid the rate for the job and the erosion of their professional responsibilities which could adversely impact vulnerable families.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said that the 58 health visitors went ahead with their strike (pictured) after talks with the council, under the auspices of the conciliation service Acas, failed to resolve the dispute.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Steve Syson said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe held Acas talks with the council on Friday and, unfortunately, we were unable to reach a settlement, and therefore, the 48 hour strike today is going ahead.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe believe it to be the first time that the county\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s health visitors will have taken strike action in defence of their pay and professional standards,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is a sad indictment of the council bosses that they have allowed the situation to reach this stage\u00c2\u00a0 However, we are faced with a local authority more concerned with giving its former chief executive Keith Ireland a scandalous \u00c2\u0141292,000 pay off for a mere six months work than paying its own health visitors the rate for the job.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThat said, Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s door remains open for constructive talks at any time to settle this dispute for the benefit of our members and, ultimately, for the welfare of the families of Lincolnshire.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There\u00c2\u00a0was a demonstration of striking health visitors that\u00c2\u00a0were not on the outreach picket lines from\u00c2\u00a08.30am today near the\u00c2\u00a0Lincolnshire County Council\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Gates.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite calculates that its Lincolnshire health visitor members have lost more than \u00c2\u01412,000 a year since they were transferred from the NHS to the county council in October 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite, which embraces the Community Practitioners\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and Health Visitors\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Association (CPHVA), is also seriously concerned about the downgrading of the health visitors\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 professional status, resulting in fewer staff doing the specialist health visitor role.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Further stoppages are planned with 24 hour strikes on\u00c2\u00a0 July 19 and 22, which will be followed by a 48 hour strike on\u00c2\u00a0 July 25. All the strikes will start at a minute past midnight.
