{"id":18734,"date":"2019-09-04T16:50:41","date_gmt":"2019-09-04T15:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=18734"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:55:36","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:55:36","slug":"princess-yachts-plymouth-sack-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=18734","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Shoddy move&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>A plan by the bosses at Princess Yachts in Plymouth to get rid of more than 100 probationers and those with less than two years\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 service will be strongly resisted, Unite said today (September 4).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said that the management was dressing up this move as performance dismissals, when it\u00c2\u00a0was\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0098a shoddy move\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c2\u00a0taken without the agreed consultation process.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said that it would be pursuing protective award claims for the affected workers due to the lack of redundancy consultation, as they face being sacked tomorrow (September 5).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Dave Springbett said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhat we have here is a shoddy move to sack more than 100 probationers and those with less than two years\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 service without going through the proper consultation process.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe management is alleging that these workers are underperforming. If that were the case, the company would be instituting a replacement programme for those being unfairly sacked, but it hasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhat the company is dressing up as a performance management programme is, in fact, an arbitrary cost-cutting redundancy exercise. We believe that it could be the first such tranche of job losses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe will be\u00c2\u00a0pursing\u00c2\u00a0protective award\u00c2\u00a0claims due to the lack of\u00c2\u00a0proper and statutory\u00c2\u00a0redundancy consultation\u00c2\u00a0for these members, despite Unite requesting such a dialogue on a number of occasions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bEven at this eleventh hour, we are calling for the company to rescind this proposal.
