{"id":18748,"date":"2019-09-06T15:12:46","date_gmt":"2019-09-06T14:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=18748"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:55:35","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:55:35","slug":"midland-metropolitan-hospital-cladding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=18748","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Serious flaws&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite is demanding urgent answers after it was revealed this week that cladding on the unfinished Midland Metropolitan hospital is expected to be found to be unsafe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The revelations have emerged 600 days after Carillion the principal contractor on the project went bust on\u00c2\u00a0January 15,\u00c2\u00a02018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite is highly concerned that the concerns about the cladding have only just emerged. Similar concerns about the cladding on the Royal Liverpool hospitals emerged a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite is further concerned that the cladding would have been installed after the tragic Grenfell fire on\u00c2\u00a0June 14, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If the hospital had become operational and the cladding had remained in place it would have placed both patients and staff at risk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Su Lowe said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe devil may care attitude of Carillion is beyond comprehension, apparently it was prepared to clad the Midland Metropolitan hospital in a dangerous material.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bEven after the tragic events of Grenfell it appears not to have thought it necessary to check, amend or remove the cladding on our new hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bQuestions also need to be raised about why the cladding wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t checked earlier; today (September 6) marks 600 days since Carillion\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s collapse.
