Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Philippa Marsden spoke from the heart when she addressed conference on Wednesday (September 11) in support of a motion on Palestine.<\/p>\n

She described the first-hand experience she and a TUC Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Committee delegation had when they visited Palestine, in the now walled city of Bethlehem and a refugee camp in Jenin.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bNothing could have prepared us for the brutality which is being meted out by the Israeli state on a daily basis,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 she said. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe spoke to Palestinian families whose homes had been raided for no reason at two in the morning.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe spoke to distraught mothers who could not speak to their own children \u00e2\u20ac\u201c because they were being detained and processed by a Military Court,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Philippa added. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe saw the empty tear gas and foul-smelling \u00e2\u20ac\u0098skunk gas\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 canisters that littered the road sides and gardens of peoples\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 homes.”<\/p>\n

Describing what they saw as a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bsystematic campaign of harassment, degradation and humiliation\u00e2\u20ac\u0165, Philippa said, “There were times when we felt we could no nothing more than cry \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not ashamed to say that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s exactly what we did.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n

But she urged Congress not to give up in despair.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe must re-double our solidarity efforts,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 she said. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bI am proud that Unite stands squarely behind PSC and of the work we have done to help establish the network Labour & Palestine within the Labour Party.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBesieged and blockaded from all sides, the Gaza strip remains the world largest prison.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe campaign of harassment, the land annexations, and the building of illegal settlements and walls has created a string of mini-Gaza\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s across the West Bank.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bCongress, this is what the end game of Netanyahu and Trump’s vision looks like,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Philippa concluded. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is nothing short of an openly apartheid-state.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n
