{"id":19082,"date":"2019-09-25T11:41:53","date_gmt":"2019-09-25T10:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=19082"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:55:10","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:55:10","slug":"unites-syed-uddin-says-austerity-is-a-political-choice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=19082","title":{"rendered":"Where the blame lies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Syed Nahid Uddin a Unite delegate works for a council so knows first-hand what austerity has meant for local government.\u00c2\u00a0 For Syed this isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t a rhetorical argument this is real life day in and day out.\u00c2\u00a0 Austerity was not an economic choice it was a political one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Syed knows where the blame lies.\u00c2\u00a0 It lies with a Tory government and their Liberal Democrat collaborators but don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t expect any contribution just look at their record.\u00c2\u00a0 No contrition only arrogance and an attempt to rewrite history.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He says, &#8220;At the launch of his new book \u00e2\u20ac\u201c <em>For the Record <\/em>David Cameron said, austerity didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t go far enough.He said he wished he had \u00e2\u20ac\u015bripped the plaster off\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 with even more cuts early on\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As Syed argues they have no shame.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;Alexei Sayle hit the nail on the head when he said: \u00e2\u20ac\u015bAusterity is the bizarre idea that the global financial crash of 2008 was caused by there being too many libraries in Wolverhampton!\u00e2\u20ac\u0165&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cameron may want to rewrite history but for Syed the important thing is to make sure we don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t let them get away with it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The record is clear &#8211; last decade has been nothing short of devastating for our Local Authorities. \u00c2\u01410.60 out of every \u00c2\u01411 from Government has been slashed from our services. Essential services have been slashed and hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost.\u00c2\u00a0 Services such as parks and libraries that feed the soul as well as the body.
