{"id":19143,"date":"2019-10-01T16:43:33","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T15:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=19143"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:55:09","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:55:09","slug":"bradford-libraries-museum-strike-dates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=19143","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Swingeing cuts&#8217; fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Library and museum staff in Bradford will strike for 14 days this autumn over swingeing cuts to the city\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s\u00c2\u00a014 libraries and museums, which could see funding axed by 65 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite, which represents about 50 library and museum staff, announced the strike dates\u00c2\u00a0today (October 1).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first two day strike will be on\u00c2\u00a0 October\u00c2\u00a021 and 22 and then there will be a three day strike on\u00c2\u00a0 November 5, 6 and 7. This will be followed by a four day stoppage between November\u00c2\u00a018 and 21 inclusively and a five day strike on December 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 . All the strikes will start at 00.01.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This follows Unite members voting by 77 per cent for strike action and 94 per cent for industrial action short of a strike in defence of the library and museum service.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite has charted a decade of cuts to libraries and museums by the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the latest \u00c2\u0141950,000 for the year starting April 2019 and a further \u00c2\u01411,050,000 earmarked from April 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Mark Martin said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe 14 days of strike action throughout the autumn we have announced today are a very strong shot across the council\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bows.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is a wake-up call for the council to come to the table for constructive negotiations \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s door is open 24\/7 for such talks,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe number of strike days demonstrates how passionately our members feel about the swingeing cuts that the council is hell-bent on forcing through which could see funding for this service axed by 65 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe have had great and heart-warming support from members of the Bradford public and the surrounding areas.
