{"id":19174,"date":"2019-10-04T13:27:54","date_gmt":"2019-10-04T12:27:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=19174"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:55:08","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:55:08","slug":"unwaivering-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=19174","title":{"rendered":"Unwaivering support"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Hundreds of Thomas Cook workers\u00c2\u00a0were offered hope as they flocked to\u00c2\u00a0a massive jobs fair held\u00c2\u00a0at Manchester Airport on Thursday (October 3).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fair, spearheaded by the Greater Manchester Growth Company in conjunction with the Combined Authorities, brought together Thomas Cook workers and a range of employers, including Network Rail, the NHS, Whitbread, Next and others, with 5,000 vacancies said to have been on offer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19175\" src=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/jobs_fair.jpg\" alt=\"jobs_fair\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was a busy day for ex-Thomas Cook workers who &#8212; though still fighting for answers after the company they&#8217;d dedicated their working lives to collapsed under dubious circumstances &#8212; are eager\u00c2\u00a0to move forward with their futures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3x1mKukZt0g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Those attending the jobs fair flocked to Unite&#8217;s stall, with many members, like cabin crew member Barbara Thompson in the video below, hailing Unite&#8217;s support through\u00c2\u00a0such a difficult time:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qrrUporeVYQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite members also took to Twitter to praise the jobs fair and the union&#8217;s unwaivering support:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">If anyone needed a reason why they should join a union then they need look no further than the plight of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ThomasCook?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ThomasCook<\/a> staff. (@Gingerbubble14) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Gingerbubble14\/status\/1179759777007783936?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 3, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite heard from a number of members about their experience with the union in the last week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cabin crew member Geraldine told UniteLive, &#8220;As soon as I started with Monarch I joined the union. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m so glad I kept up my membership with Unite to get me through this again. The best thing I did was join Unite.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Colin, another former Thomas Cook cabin crew member added, &#8220;I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve always been a member of the union but never needed assistance before.
