{"id":19229,"date":"2019-10-09T16:07:04","date_gmt":"2019-10-09T15:07:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=19229"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:55:07","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:55:07","slug":"hackney-shift-payments-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=19229","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Significant victory&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Drivers and passenger escorts on school buses for disabled children in Hackney accepted a financial settlement today (October 9) as they started strike action in their dispute over payments for working split shifts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said today its 38 members, who drive and assist the children to and from school on a daily basis, accepted the offer on the picket line as they started a 48 hour strike.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Onay Kasab said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bLast night (October 8) Hackney council made an offer which we took to the picket line this morning. Members agreed to accept the package, but will stay out on strike today returning to work tomorrow (October 10).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe financial offer includes a consolidated lump sum each year together with the conciliation service Acas going into the workplace to look at the issues raised by our members during this long-running dispute.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis is a significant victory for a lowly-paid, but dedicated, workforce doing vital work helping some of the most vulnerable children in the borough,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI would like to pay tribute to the solidarity and perseverance of our members as they fought for pay justice in one of the world\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s most expensive cities.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The dispute centred on a claim for compensation for the split shifts, backdated to July last year when the issue was first raised.
