{"id":19337,"date":"2019-10-21T16:16:07","date_gmt":"2019-10-21T15:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=19337"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:55:06","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:55:06","slug":"solid-bradford-museum-library-staff-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=19337","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Solid strike&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>A strike by library and museum staff in Bradford over \u00e2\u20ac\u0098swingeing\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 cuts was \u00e2\u20ac\u0098solid\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 leading to the closure of the libraries and disruption to the service Unite said today (October 21).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s stoppage, involving over 50 Unite members, is the first day in a two day strike. It will then be followed by a three day strike on November 5, 6, and 7 . There will then be a four day strike between November 18 and 21 inclusively and a five day stoppage on\u00c2\u00a0 December 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were demonstrations this morning outside Bradford\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s City Library and Shipley Library where the public showed their support for the striking workers. A further two demonstrations are planned for tomorrow at Keighley Library, 1 Albert Square, Keighley, BD21 2AT from 8.30am and Cliffe Castle Museum, Keighley, BD20 6LQ from\u00c2\u00a011.30am.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite has charted a decade of cuts to libraries and museums by the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the latest \u00c2\u0141950,000 for the year starting April 2019 and a further \u00c2\u01411,050,000 earmarked from April 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s clear that Bradford council bosses have underestimated the strength of feeling and resolve of our members to stand up against corrosive cuts,&#8221; said Unite regional officer Mark Fieldhouse.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI would like to thank the public for all their support. They know the importance of Bradford\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s libraries and museums to the community and recognise that you cannot deliver a service that meets the community\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s needs on a shoe string,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members will not be cowed or silenced.
