Leaked papers show that the government is planning to demolish workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 rights after Britain leaves the EU.<\/p>\n

Unite accused prime minister Boris Johnson, who has broken his \u00e2\u20ac\u015bdo or die\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 to promise to deliver Brexit on October 31, of trying to rush through a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bdodgy banger of a Brexit deal\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 that will reverse workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 rights and ruin UK manufacturing.<\/p>\n

The leaked documents, obtained by the Financial Times<\/em><\/a>, say that workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 rights and environmental commitments contained in the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Brexit deal leave \u00e2\u20ac\u015broom for interpretation\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n

Labour said Johnson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Brexit deal is a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bblueprint\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 for scrapping \u00e2\u20ac\u015bvital rights and protections\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n

The leak suggests the government thinks that it will be able to disregard pledges in its new Brexit deal to maintain a \u00e2\u20ac\u015blevel playing field\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 and find ways to erode employment rights after Britain has left the EU.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The reference to maintaining a level playing field in Johnson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Brexit<\/a> deal is contained in the political declaration rather than the legally binding withdrawal agreement.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The FT reported that the leaked document says the UK government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s interpretation of a level playing field will be \u00e2\u20ac\u015bvery different\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 from the EU\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and that the pledge is a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bmuch more open starting point\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 for negotiating a trade deal in the future.<\/p>\n

At Unite Scotland\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s policy conference on Saturday (October 26), general secretary Len McCluskey said that on Brexit Johnson was acting like \u00e2\u20ac\u015bdodgy used car salesman\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 trying to rush through the sale of a dud vehicle.<\/p>\n

He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bMr Johnson, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve looked under the bonnet of your dodgy deal and saw that not only is the spare tyre flat but half the engine has gone. The trading arrangements underpinning the jobs of our members will be scrapped. The customs provisions we need to support just in time trade from aerospace to food manufacturing have been ripped out.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe truth is Boris Johnson is prepared to risk hundreds of thousands of manufacturing<\/a> jobs \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the jobs of our communities \u00e2\u20ac\u201c to appease a handful of rabid right-wingers. Johnson has dug his ditch but it will be our members\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 jobs that die in it. I tell you now, Unite will never allow this.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n

With Johnson failing to pass his Brexit deal in parliament the deadline for leaving has now being extending to January 31, 2020 by the EU.<\/p>\n

The extension makes the chances of opposition parties agreeing to a general election within the next few weeks more likely \u00e2\u20ac\u201c as long as the government rules out any chance of the UK crashing out of the EU with no deal on\u00c2\u00a0 January 31.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the prospect of a general election, McCluskey said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bA UK general election is coming \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and when it does, it will be the fight of our lives. We will need to display every ounce of our courage and fight in the weeks and months to come.<\/p>\n
