{"id":19474,"date":"2019-11-15T17:28:11","date_gmt":"2019-11-15T17:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=19474"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:54:52","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:54:52","slug":"manufacturing-menace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=19474","title":{"rendered":"Manufacturing \u00e2\u20ac\u015bmenace\u00e2\u20ac\u0165"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite has rubbished Boris Johnson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s plan to ensure that no one will be further than 30 miles from an electric vehicle charging point as inadequate and accused the PM of being a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bmenace\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 to the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s manufacturing industries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a general election campaign speech at an electric car plant on Tuesday (12 November), Johnson pledged to spend \u00c2\u0141500m ensuring everybody in England and Wales would be within 30 miles of an electric vehicle charger.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Johnson also promised to double state spending for research and development over five years to create a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bnew wave of economic growth\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Commenting, Unite national officer for automotive Steve Bush said: \u00e2\u20ac\u015bDrivers will not invest in electric vehicles if they are forced to travel up to 30 miles to recharge \u00e2\u20ac\u201c imagine having to drive that distance just to fill up your petrol tank. This is exactly the kind of off-the-cuff policy that has typified the Conservative\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s failure to implement a joined up Industrial Strategy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBoris Johnson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s policies lack the coherence and ambition needed to give UK manufacturing the boost it needs to set Britain on a course to tackle the climate crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bYou only have to look at the Conservative\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shambolic handling of Brexit to realise that they are menace to the sectors who will lead the way in transforming the UK to a green energy economy. Just this week Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Brexit uncertainty made it \u00e2\u20ac\u0098too risky\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 to locate the firm\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first European electric vehicle battery plant in the UK.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The new Telsa factory will be located in Germany.
