The public w<\/span>ere<\/span> urged to vote for \u00e2\u20ac\u015bhope\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 today<\/span> (21 November)<\/span>, as Jeremy Corbyn launched <\/span>a Labour manifesto that would <\/span>transform the country with an \u00e2\u20ac\u015binvestment blitz\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span> coupled with<\/span> higher taxes for big business and the super-rich.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Speaking at Birmingham City University to<\/span> a<\/span> crowd of students and Labour activists, Corbyn<\/span> said the <\/span>manifesto<\/span><\/a> is<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>full of popular policies that the political establishment has blocked for a generation\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Corbyn added, \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>You can cut all the flowers, but you cannot keep <\/span>s<\/span>pring from coming.<\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><\/p>\n

Unite welcomed the manifesto as a <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>fantastic offer from Labour to the electorate<\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The manifesto is c<\/span>entred on the need to invest in public services, infrastructure, jobs and industry <\/span>a<\/span>s well as<\/span> making<\/span> the<\/span> top<\/span> five per cent of<\/span> earners and corporations <\/span>pay<\/span> their fair share<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As well<\/span> as<\/span> placing <\/span>mail, rail,<\/span> bus<\/span> and utility <\/span>service<\/span>s<\/span> back <\/span>under\u00c2\u00a0<\/span>public <\/span>control<\/span>, Labour <\/span>would<\/span> nationalise broadband, provide<\/span> free\u00c2\u00a0<\/span>pres<\/span>criptions and dental checks and abolish hospital parking charges. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Public sector pay would increase by 5 per cent next year, in order to rebalance the 1 per cent wage cap that<\/span> has<\/span> been enforced over the last few years<\/span>, while Labour will also build 150,000 more council houses a year and a 1,000 new Sure Start centres. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Funding<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c fully costed and explained in Labour\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>grey book<\/span><\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 published alongside the manifesto \u00e2\u20ac\u201c<\/span> will<\/span> come from<\/span> \u00c2\u014182.9bn a year levied through tax increases and reforms targeting corporations and <\/span>the top five per cent of earners<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A<\/span>nyone earning under \u00c2\u014180,000 a year will not be affected, Corbyn said.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He<\/span> said<\/span>: <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bYou can have this plan for real change, because you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t need money to buy it<\/span>.<\/span> Y<\/span>ou just need a vote<\/span>.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A<\/span>n \u00c2\u0141<\/span>11bn<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u015bjust transition fund\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c\u00c2\u00a0<\/span>to shift <\/span>the UK onto a green economy and <\/span>retrain workers in industries that will<\/span> be<\/span> impacted so jobs are not lost<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c will also be <\/span>created<\/span> through the taxation of big oil and gas firms<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Corbyn said<\/span>,<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe can no longer deny the climate emergency. We can see it all around us, as the recent floods in Yorkshire and the east Midlands have shown. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>We have no time to waste. The crisis demands swift action, but it isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t right to load the costs of the climate emergency on to the nurse, the builder or the energy worker<\/span>.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><\/p>\n

Commenting<\/span> on the manifesto, Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said, <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis is a fantastic offer from <\/span>Labour<\/span><\/a> to the electorate.<\/span> I urge all Unite members and the general public to listen to what Labour is saying.<\/span><\/p>\n
