\u00e2\u20ac\u015bhope\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 today<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> (21 November)<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, as Jeremy Corbyn launched <\/span><span class=\"s2\">a Labour manifesto that would <\/span><span class=\"s2\">transform the country with an \u00e2\u20ac\u015binvestment blitz\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">coupled with<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> higher taxes for big business and the super-rich.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">Speaking at Birmingham City University to<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> a<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> crowd of students and Labour activists, Corbyn<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> said the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/labour.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Real-Change-Labour-Manifesto-2019.pdf\"><span class=\"s3\">manifesto<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s2\"> is<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">\u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span><span class=\"s2\">full of popular policies that the political establishment has blocked for a generation\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">Corbyn added, \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span><span class=\"s2\">You can cut all the flowers, but you cannot keep <\/span><span class=\"s2\">s<\/span><span class=\"s2\">pring from coming.<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">Unite welcomed the manifesto as a <\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span><span class=\"s2\">fantastic offer from Labour to the electorate<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">The manifesto is c<\/span><span class=\"s2\">entred on the need to invest in public services, infrastructure, jobs and industry <\/span><span class=\"s2\">a<\/span><span class=\"s2\">s well as<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> making<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> the<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> top<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> five per cent of<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> earners and corporations <\/span><span class=\"s2\">pay<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> their fair share<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">As well<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> as<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">placing <\/span><span class=\"s2\">mail, rail,<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> bus<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and utility <\/span><span class=\"s2\">service<\/span><span class=\"s2\">s<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> back <\/span><span class=\"s2\">under\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">public <\/span><span class=\"s2\">control<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, Labour <\/span><span class=\"s2\">would<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> nationalise broadband, provide<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> free\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">pres<\/span><span class=\"s2\">criptions and dental checks and abolish hospital parking charges. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">Public sector pay would increase by 5 per cent next year, in order to rebalance the 1 per cent wage cap that<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> has<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> been enforced over the last few years<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, while Labour will also build 150,000 more council houses a year and a 1,000 new Sure Start centres. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">Funding<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c fully costed and explained in Labour\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/labour.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Funding-Real-Change.pdf\"><span class=\"s3\">grey book<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s2\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 published alongside the manifesto \u00e2\u20ac\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> will<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> come from<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> \u00c2\u014182.9bn a year levied through tax increases and reforms targeting corporations and <\/span><span class=\"s2\">the top five per cent of earners<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">A<\/span><span class=\"s2\">nyone earning under \u00c2\u014180,000 a year will not be affected, Corbyn said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">He<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">said<\/span><span class=\"s2\">: <\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00e2\u20ac\u015bYou can have this plan for real change, because you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t need money to buy it<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">Y<\/span><span class=\"s2\">ou just need a vote<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">A<\/span><span class=\"s2\">n \u00c2\u0141<\/span><span class=\"s2\">11bn<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> \u00e2\u20ac\u015bjust transition fund\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">to shift <\/span><span class=\"s2\">the UK onto a green economy and <\/span><span class=\"s2\">retrain workers in industries that will<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> be<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> impacted so jobs are not lost<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c will also be <\/span><span class=\"s2\">created<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> through the taxation of big oil and gas firms<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">Corbyn said<\/span><span class=\"s2\">,<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe can no longer deny the climate emergency. We can see it all around us, as the recent floods in Yorkshire and the east Midlands have shown. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">\u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span><span class=\"s2\">We have no time to waste.
