{"id":19762,"date":"2020-01-09T16:50:23","date_gmt":"2020-01-09T16:50:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=19762"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:54:35","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:54:35","slug":"hitachi-job-losses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=19762","title":{"rendered":"Hitachi job losses"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite has challenged the government to radically review its procurement policies after the Hitachi Rail company in Newton Aycliffe County Durham announced a quarter of its staff face redundancy, due to problems with winning major UK contracts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In total 250 of the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s workforce are set to be made redundant. <a href=\"http:\/\/Unitelive.org\/tag\/hitachi\">Hitachi<\/a> has laid the blame on the job losses on its difficulty in winning large volume contracts for new trains.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite believes that the redundancies\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 announcement will demonstrate whether the pledges by the area\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new Conservative MP Paul Howell to fight for his constituents will be honoured.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Pat McCourt said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe announcement of such large scale redundancies is bad news for the affected workers, their families and the local community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThese redundancies need to be laid at the door of the government.
