Unite, along with major manufacturers, have warned that <\/span>government plans to diverge from EU regulations <\/span>could seriously harm automotive, aerospace<\/span> and food and drink firms across the supply chain.<\/span><\/p>\n

Carmakers<\/span><\/a> said the move will cost <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>billions<\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span> and <\/span>hurt <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>UK manufacturing and consumer choice<\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span>, while Unite said non-alignment <\/span>will \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>undoubtedly be the final nail in the coffin<\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 for already struggling manufacturers. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Confederation for British Industry said <\/span>regulatory <\/span>alignment with the EU \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>supports jobs and competitiveness \u00e2\u20ac\u201d particularly in some of the most deprived regions of the UK<\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span>.<\/span> Mean<\/span>while <\/span>the Food and Drink<\/span>Association<\/span> said \u00e2\u20ac\u015bi<\/span>t will mean businesses will have to adjust to costly new checks, processes and procedures, that will<\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/span> may well result in price rises<\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The warnings came after the chancellor Sa<\/span>jid Javid told the Financial Times<\/span>,<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThere will not be alignment, we will not be a rule taker, we will not be in the single market and we will not be in the customs union \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and we will do this by the end of the year.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThere will be an impact on business one way or the other, some will benefit, some won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><\/p>\n

Commenting on the chancellor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ruling out of staying close to the EU after <\/span>Brexit<\/span><\/a>, Unite assistant general secretary for manufacturing Steve Turner said<\/span>,<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s never been clearer that this government of City spivs simply don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t understand or care about manufacturing. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015b<\/span>Sajid Javid talks about there being winners and losers from a hard Brexit with no alignment to the <\/span>EU<\/span><\/a><\/a>. But there will be no winners unless he wakes up and understands why product certification, rules of origin and frictionless, tariff-free trade matter.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bJavid\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s statement needs urgent clarification from the secretary of state for business, Andrea Leadsom, before all confidence drains away.
