{"id":20045,"date":"2020-02-28T14:39:17","date_gmt":"2020-02-28T14:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=20045"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:44:31","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:44:31","slug":"westinghouse-clean-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=20045","title":{"rendered":"Clean energy park welcomed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite today (February 28)\u00c2\u00a0welcomed plans by the Westinghouse Electric Company to establish the Clean Energy Technology Park at the Springfields nuclear fuel manufacturing site in Lancashire.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The union said the park will increase the site\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0098ability to play a significant role in the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s process towards net zero by 2050\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c2\u00a0and bring jobs and investment to the north west of England.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Clean Energy Technology Park will be a centre of innovation for advanced nuclear technologies, allowing the developers, supply chain businesses and academics who will be located there to work collaboratively.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The park, which is being supported by the National Nuclear Laboratory, will also be a centre of excellence for the management of nuclear materials, complementing Westinghouse\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s existing nuclear manufacturing facilities at the Springfields site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite national officer for energy and utilities Peter McIntosh said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe announcement today made by Westinghouse supported by the National Nuclear Laboratory is to be welcomed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe Springfields site is already a world-class facility and a key strategic asset to the UK.
