{"id":20072,"date":"2020-03-03T16:32:46","date_gmt":"2020-03-03T16:32:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=20072"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:44:31","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:44:31","slug":"british-steel-bought-jingye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=20072","title":{"rendered":"New dawn for British Steel"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite has welcomed the announcement today (March 3) that Chinese steelmaker Jingye has agreed the purchase of British Steel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The deal will preserve the production of steel at the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s headquarters in Scunthorpe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite assistant general secretary Steve Turner said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s members at British Steel will be feeling a sense of relief today that the deal has finally been confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe lives of the affected workers and their families have effectively been on hold for 10 months since the company went into compulsory liquidation,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSome hard decisions have had to be made in order to ensure the deal went through.
