{"id":2125,"date":"2014-11-05T15:45:16","date_gmt":"2014-11-05T15:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=2125"},"modified":"2014-11-06T14:28:15","modified_gmt":"2014-11-06T14:28:15","slug":"working-working-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=2125","title":{"rendered":"Working for working people"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>On Monday (November 3) UNITElive reported that workers wanted a Holyrood-based MSP to lead Labour in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And today UNITElive can announce the union is backing Neil Findlay, MSP for Lothian, in the upcoming ballot for the leader of the Scottish Labour party.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A poll of Unite members conducted on November 2 revealed that by approximately four to one (78 per cent to 22 per cent) Unite members said that they wanted an MSP for the job.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The survey of over 5,000 Unite members across Scotland also found a continuing drift away from Labour. Fifty four per cent of those who voted Labour in the last general election say they do not expect to do so again in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Unite recommendation came after detailed consultation with members\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 reps on Unite Scotland\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s political committee.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Committee membership spans working and community Scotland, embracing, among others, the finance sector, the NHS, manufacturing and the voluntary and public services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bNeil&#8217;s impressive record of working for working people and their communities at Holyrood and in his role as shadow health minister won the day,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite Scottish secretary said Pat Rafferty.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIn Neil we are confident that our members will find a leader who not only understands their concerns but will fight doggedly on their behalf.
