{"id":21361,"date":"2020-05-11T14:08:06","date_gmt":"2020-05-11T13:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=21361"},"modified":"2020-05-11T14:08:07","modified_gmt":"2020-05-11T13:08:07","slug":"unite-we-have-an-hs-army","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=21361","title":{"rendered":"Unite: We have an H&#038;S army"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite general secretary Len McCluskey appeared on the BBC&#8217;s Radio 4 <em>Today<\/em> programme on later on BBC 2&#8217;s<em> Victoria Derbyshire<\/em> show, giving Unite&#8217;s reactions to the prime minister&#8217;s confusing Covid Alert Plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He believes proper health and safety in returning to work was paramount &#8211; and told Victoria Derbyshire, &#8220;We have an army, tens of thousands of experienced health and safety representatives who can play a key role.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/o5DjO7Bhigk\"><em><strong>WATCH HERE\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Safe workplace guidance needed\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/o5DjO7Bhigk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>McCluskey&#8217;s comments were received warmly by Unite members. Here&#8217;s a few from Twitter:\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A structured response today Len on your appearance on BBC news, if only our PM could have had such a structured response to lockdown&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I agree with Len about the new guidelines. We should have made them an INSTRUCTION and not just a suggestion. That might stop the Mike Ashley&#8217;s and his mates from the work the way I want or get sacked syndrome.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One message for blue collar workers such as those in construction and manufacturing. Another for white collar workers. The government is negligent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[My workplace] is going to need them [h&amp;s reps]. Can&#8217;t see how they can operate production lines when there are so many people working at the same time&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I 100 per cent agree with Len McCluskey.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I mean Imagine union leaders and first ministers plus opposition leaders all were included in the govt&#8217;s plan to ease lockdown safely and move forward with consensus . Then we would look like a country who is responsible and mature and in charge .
