{"id":21534,"date":"2020-05-19T12:15:20","date_gmt":"2020-05-19T11:15:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=21534"},"modified":"2020-05-19T15:33:47","modified_gmt":"2020-05-19T14:33:47","slug":"not-at-the-expense-of-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=21534","title":{"rendered":"Not at the expense of workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Last night (May 18) Unite regional secretary Peter Kavanagh (London and Eastern) told Sky News: \u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite wants to see the economy ramped up\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 but not at the expense of working people.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>Kavanagh told Sky\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Adam Boulton, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s in the interests of all our members to see the economy back up and running again. But we can only do that safely \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it cannot be at the expense of working people.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe need to look at staggered start times, but again that needs to be co-ordinated by government,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he stressed that voluntary codes just wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t cut it.<\/p>\n<p>He said Unite had processes in place that could make the static workplace safe \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and had been in talks with government at the highest level \u00e2\u20ac\u201c but he emphasised, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnless we sort public transport out it could all be for nothing.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>Kavanagh concluded his interview by saying that all decent employers should be considering their expectations on how their employees could safely get to work during rush hour.
