{"id":21962,"date":"2020-06-05T15:20:42","date_gmt":"2020-06-05T14:20:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=21962"},"modified":"2020-06-05T15:20:42","modified_gmt":"2020-06-05T14:20:42","slug":"aero-firm-in-brutal-jobs-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=21962","title":{"rendered":"Aero firm in &#8216;brutal&#8217; jobs attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Aerospace parts firm SPS Technologies\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0098must not exploit the lockdown\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c2\u00a0to slash jobs and terms and conditions at its sites in Nottingham, Leicester and Rugby, Unite said yesterday (Thursday June 4).<\/p>\n<p>Unite has more than 500 members at SPS\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 sites across the Midlands, where the firm is planning more than 420 redundancies and reductions to pay grades, sick pay, paid breaks, shift premiums and other terms and conditions\u00c2\u00a0for those staff who remain.<\/p>\n<p>Unite is calling on SPS to furlough workers under the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s job retention scheme until October so it can gain a clearer picture of the post-lockdown economy and prevent unnecessary job losses and contract changes.<\/p>\n<p>In Nottinghamshire, SPS is making around a third of the 300 strong workforce at its Annesley site redundant, while more than 40 jobs will go in at firm\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Mansfield site, where around 100 people are employed. SPS has also announced 200 job losses at its 480-man site in Leicester, as well as nearly 100 jobs losses at its operations in Rugby, which constitutes the vast majority of the site\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s workforce.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSPS must not exploit the lockdown to force through these\u00c2\u00a0unnecessary redundancies and brutal attacks on terms and conditions,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 commented Unite regional officer Garry Guye said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite is calling on SPS to immediately furlough staff until October under the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s job retention scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bFurloughing the workforce will give SPS time to properly assess the economic environment it finds itself in as the country emerges from lockdown and allow a full\u00c2\u00a0consultation with Unite to prevent needless harm being inflicted on the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSPS now has an opportunity to show that it is not using the lockdown as a cover to attack jobs and T&amp;Cs.
