{"id":22518,"date":"2020-07-02T16:46:21","date_gmt":"2020-07-02T15:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=22518"},"modified":"2020-07-02T16:46:21","modified_gmt":"2020-07-02T15:46:21","slug":"halt-rash-gkn-auto-redundancies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=22518","title":{"rendered":"Halt &#8216;rash&#8217; GKN Auto redundancies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>GKN Automotive must use the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s job retention scheme \u00e2\u20ac\u0098properly\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and halt plans to make 185 staff at its Birmingham factory redundant, Unite said today (July 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite, which represents nearly all of the automotive supply chain firm\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 600 strong workforce, said the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision to begin consultation over making nearly a third of staff redundant was \u00e2\u20ac\u0098rash\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Referring to the fact that employers will have to start paying a fifth of furloughed workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 wages from August, the union accused GKN Automotive of abandoning its staff as soon as the firm was expected to contribute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite national officer Des Quinn said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe clue to the job retention scheme is in the name \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s meant to save jobs.
