{"id":22571,"date":"2020-07-07T11:35:29","date_gmt":"2020-07-07T10:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=22571"},"modified":"2020-07-08T12:18:30","modified_gmt":"2020-07-08T11:18:30","slug":"its-not-rocket-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=22571","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not rocket science\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Ahead of tomorrow\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (July 8) Chancellor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Summer Statement, Unite assistant general secretary for manufacturing, Steve Turner, outlines what Unite is seeking in an interview with BBC News this morning (July 7).<\/p>\n<p>Turner says, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bTomorrow we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re looking for very real practical measures to support those sectors [manufacturing] of course, but also to support the wider economy.<\/p>\n<p>There are manufacturing sectors such as aerospace and automotive that demand will return to. They are good businesses right now, but they need some support beyond October, by way of sector specific packages to ensure that their viability continues.<\/p>\n<p>But also an extension of \u00e2\u20ac\u0098phase two of the furlough\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c you could call it \u00e2\u20ac\u201c where we support short-time working, job share and job rotation, to keep everybody in work \u00e2\u20ac\u201c but maybe working 50 per cent of the hours they worked previously until such times as demand returns. And it will \u00e2\u20ac\u201c so that means we can quite simply increase the hours, at that point.<\/p>\n<p>And we can use that [time] to train people, up-skill people, like they do in Germany and France.
