{"id":22822,"date":"2020-07-20T16:47:08","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T15:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=22822"},"modified":"2020-07-20T16:47:08","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T15:47:08","slug":"protect-our-steel-jobs-call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=22822","title":{"rendered":"Protect our steel jobs call"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite in Wales has reacted with concern to media reports questioning the long term future of the blast furnaces at Tata\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Port Talbot plant.<\/p>\n<p>Speculation has emerged that Tata is in talks with the UK government to replace the plant\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s blast furnaces with electric arc furnaces as a condition of its investment in the site.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe media reports regarding the future of Port Talbot\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s blast furnaces are speculation and indeed unhelpful to Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s campaign to secure a long term future for the Welsh and UK steel industry,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 commented Tony Brady, Unite national officer for steel.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe have to be creative in building a future for Tata in the UK but that absolutely cannot be at the expense of our members\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUK government support for the steel sector is desperately needed and it is good news that dialogue with the steel sector is finally taking place.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe top priority in these discussions has to be about maintaining maximum levels of employment.
