{"id":23638,"date":"2020-09-14T11:04:02","date_gmt":"2020-09-14T10:04:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=23638"},"modified":"2020-09-14T11:04:03","modified_gmt":"2020-09-14T10:04:03","slug":"amazing-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=23638","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Amazing victory&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Unite this weekend (September 12) hailed as \u00e2\u20ac\u0098an amazing victory\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 news that Arcadia, run by controversial retail tycoon Sir Philip Green, has now agreed to pay full salaries for head office staff facing redundancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The row erupted earlier on Saturday when the media highlighted the fact that Arcadia, whose high street brands include Topman, Topshop and Dorothy Perkins, was only going to pay its head office staff 50 per cent of their notice pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite had threatened to take legal action for illegal deduction of earnings on behalf of more than 40 head office staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July, Arcadia announced that it was cutting 500 jobs from its 2,500 strong head office workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite regional officer Debbie McSweeney said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe welcome this news that Arcadia has U-turned and has now promised to pay head office staff full pay during their notice period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe understand that it is almost without precedent for Arcadia to apologise for such behaviour towards employees \u00e2\u20ac\u201c but this situation should have never been allowed to happen in the first place by Sir Philip Green, one of the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s richest men,&#8221; she added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite would like to sincerely thank our members for the solidarity and personal courage they have shown in standing up to Arcadia\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s management and playing their part in righting a flagrant pay injustice.
