{"id":24091,"date":"2020-10-06T16:16:07","date_gmt":"2020-10-06T15:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=24091"},"modified":"2020-10-06T16:16:09","modified_gmt":"2020-10-06T15:16:09","slug":"fuel-drivers-to-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=24091","title":{"rendered":"Fuel drivers to strike?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Fuel tanker drivers, employed by Hoyer Petrolog UK, and members of the Unite union, are balloting for industrial action in a dispute over job cuts and attacks on conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The workers, based at the\u00c2\u00a0Stanlow\u00c2\u00a0oil refinery\u00c2\u00a0and the fuel storage facility in\u00c2\u00a0Bramhall\u00c2\u00a0in Cheshire, began balloting for industrial action last Friday (2<sup>\u00c2\u00a0<\/sup>October) and the ballot will close this Friday (9 October).\u00c2\u00a0If the drivers vote in favour of industrial action strikes could begin later this month, creating serious disruption to fuel deliveries.<\/p>\n<p>The company delivers to many petrol stations\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0supermarkets and also delivers aviation fuel to airports.<\/p>\n<p>Hoyer is proposing to make 6 of the 20 plus workers redundant. Initially they proposed six alternative roles, but those positions included inferior terms and conditions, notably a compulsory lay-off clause, which would allow the company to lay workers off without pay and without warning.<\/p>\n<p>The lay-off clauses were opposed by Unite and this resulted in Hoyer withdrawing the jobs and pushing ahead with the redundancies.<\/p>\n<p>Unite has entered into detailed and lengthy negotiations with the company in order to seek to avoid job losses and has proposed costed alternatives.
