{"id":24553,"date":"2020-11-09T16:37:08","date_gmt":"2020-11-09T16:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=24553"},"modified":"2020-11-09T16:37:09","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T16:37:09","slug":"unite-supports-no-confidence-vote-in-jerseys-chief-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=24553","title":{"rendered":"Unite supports &#8216;no confidence&#8217; vote in Jersey&#8217;s chief minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Unite is supporting a vote of \u00e2\u20ac\u0098no confidence\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in Jersey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s chief minister John Le Fondr\u0102\u00a9\u00c2\u00a0 tomorrow (November 10) over allegations that the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s CEO Charlie Parker had failed to secure the necessary written authority regarding a second job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite is supporting Reform Jersey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s members in The States Assembly in the vote of \u00e2\u20ac\u0098no confidence\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 over John Le Fondr\u0102\u00a9\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s handling of the affair and his failure to show adequate leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, it has been revealed that Charlie Parker, the chief executive officer of the Government of Jersey, has taken on a non-executive directorship for a UK-based real estate company. It has become clear that Mr. Parker, CEO since 2017, failed to secure written confirmation from his employer \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the States Employment Board (SEB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ministers decided a week ago that Mr. Parker\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s second job is not compatible with his role as government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s chief executive. It is also understood that Mr Parker has refused to resign from his second role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reform Jersey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s States members will be supporting the vote of \u00e2\u20ac\u0098no confidence\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. In order to do so, senator Sam M\u0102\u00a9zec and deputy Montfort Tadier have resigned their positions as minister for children and housing, and assistant minister for economic development, respectively &#8211; a decision hailed by Unite as \u00e2\u20ac\u0098brave, courageous, and the right thing to do\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite wants John Le Fondr\u0102\u00a9 to step down if he loses the vote of \u00e2\u20ac\u0098no confidence\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and Charlie Parker to jettison his second job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite regional secretary Steve Preddy said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe wholeheartedly support the brave decisions of the Reform Jersey government members.
