{"id":2616,"date":"2015-01-06T16:31:51","date_gmt":"2015-01-06T16:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=2616"},"modified":"2015-01-06T16:31:51","modified_gmt":"2015-01-06T16:31:51","slug":"bus-stop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=2616","title":{"rendered":"Bus stop"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 18 bus operators were accused of \u00e2\u20ac\u0098burying their head in the sand\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 over \u00e2\u20ac\u0098glaringly unfair\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 pay disparities as Unite announced that up to 27,000 bus workers would be taking part in a London wide bus strike on Tuesday January 13.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 24-hour stoppage follows the continued refusal by London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bus 18 operators to enter into talks about a single London wide agreement covering bus workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 pay, terms and conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In contrast to tube drivers, there isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t one collective pay deal for bus drivers in the capital, whose pay is negotiated on a company by company basis leading to pay inequality and disparities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are over 80 different pay rates covering London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bus drivers, doing the same job, even driving the same route but for different rates of pay.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A refusal by the bus operators to address the issue has led to pay gaps of over \u00c2\u01413 an hour for new starters opening up, with pay varying from \u00c2\u01419.30 to \u00c2\u014112.34 an hour depending on the company.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Commenting, Wayne King, London regional officer for Unite said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bPassengers pay one fare to travel on London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s iconic red buses, yet there are over 80 different pay rates covering bus workers, many doing the same job or driving the same route but for different rates of pay.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bStrike action is not a step our members take lightly, but bus workers who keep London moving 24 hours a day, seven days a week, have had enough of pay inequality and unfair pay disparities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe blame for the disruption that strike action will cause sits squarely with London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bus companies.
