{"id":26996,"date":"2020-12-10T16:47:11","date_gmt":"2020-12-10T16:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=26996"},"modified":"2020-12-10T16:47:13","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T16:47:13","slug":"safety-when-it-suits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=26996","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Safety when it suits&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>DHL has been told it \u00e2\u20ac\u0098must improve\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 coronavirus safety procedures for drivers working on its Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) contract in Halewood, Liverpool, Unite said today (December 10).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite, which represents the majority of the 120 DHL drivers at the Halewood site, said staff have raised concerns that vehicles used by drivers who had subsequently tested positive for the virus were not being disinfected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Unite health and safety reps brought workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 concerns to the attention of the company, DHL dismissed the issue and accused the stewards of being on a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098witch hunt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite slammed DHL for disregarding a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098potentially serious infection control issue\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 flagged by its staff and said the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s response indicates that Unite stewards risk being unfairly targeted for performing their roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite national officer Matt Draper said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bDHL are operating the SWIS method of safety\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 Safety When It Suits. A potentially serious infection control issue has been flagged, but instead of listening to the concerns of their staff, DHL have accused Unite health and safety representatives of being on a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098witch hunt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis incident comes at the same time as <a href=\"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/liverpool-dhl-workers-stand-up-against-poverty-pay-rates\/\">DHL drivers on the Burton Biscuits and AB World Foods delivery contract prepare<\/a> to strike over worker victimisation and poverty pay,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;DHL must improve Covid safety procedures for its Halewood drivers.
