Your union needs you! Your history is our history and to this end, Unite Education together with the Marx Memorial Library are putting together thoughts, feelings, recollections, triumphs and losses, through the eyes of those who were there \u00e2\u20ac\u201c you, our members. This ambitious project is called the Unite History Project and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re asking you to join us in this quest to record forever the deeds of the past and present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unite education director, Jim Mowatt says. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bAll too often \u00e2\u20ac\u0098history\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 has been about the winners \u00e2\u20ac\u201c kings and queens \u00e2\u20ac\u201c with little or even no focus on the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s History Project (UHP) is about the women and men who often unwillingly live through history. We want to capture these experiences, understanding impacts and contributions to the making of Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s past and present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve created a belting three minute video of the UHP, available on our website.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIn it you will see what we are attempting to capture and we are employing \u00e2\u20ac\u0098easy to contribute\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 ways of involving our members and their families. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u02d8Informal interviews with individuals and groups as part of our \u00e2\u20ac\u0098Oral History\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, has already proved fruitful in capturing stories from the everyday lives of our members and retired members from all over the Unite family \u00e2\u20ac\u201c England, Gibraltar, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u02d8Your stories \u00e2\u20ac\u201c we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d like to hear things like: what was it like to be made redundant? How did you feel about getting a decent occupational pension? How did you feel about benefiting from maternity leave when it was not the norm to get paid when you had a baby?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe have developed for you a dedicated website hosting national and regional written, oral and visual material: theunitehistoryproject.org<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSeveral key themes underpin the project \u00e2\u20ac\u201c equalities, bargaining, representation, internationalism, occupational changes and living standards. Most of all we need your views, experiences and contributions. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s your voice we want to hear,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 concludes Jim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
