{"id":27809,"date":"2021-02-12T13:55:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-12T13:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=27809"},"modified":"2021-02-12T13:55:32","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T13:55:32","slug":"aston-student-union-agreement-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=27809","title":{"rendered":"Aston student union agreement win"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Aston University\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s student union has signed a recognition agreement with Unite, the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s leading union, ensuring that its staff have access to collective bargaining and other workplace rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aston Students\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Union, which manages more than 110 clubs and societies and employs around 40 people, is the first student union in the West Midlands to sign a recognition agreement with Unite.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aston Students\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Union represents the interests of the Birmingham university\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s students through democratic processes, the running of campaigns and by providing advice and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recognition agreement secures collective bargaining and negotiated rights for staff, as well as agreement on time off for Unite members to train.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A plan to expand upon the two Unite workplace representatives already in place has also been agreed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite regional officer Andy Hall said,&nbsp;\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis ground-breaking agreement gives collective-bargaining rights to many young people whose interests are going to be well represented by Unite. We welcome these young people into the Unite family.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bTo achieve voluntary recognition is a very positive step from Aston Students\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Union and hopefully we can build on this to broaden the representation of young people into the future.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President of Aston Students\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Union Harry Sheppard said,&nbsp;\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe signing of this recognition agreement means that Aston Students\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Union staff now have greater protection and more opportunities.
