The Living Wage Foundation has been urged to end its accreditation of London-based lettings software provider Goodlord over\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0098brutal\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u01416,000 pay cuts that have forced staff to begin indefinite strike action, Unite said today (Tuesday 2 March 2).<\/p>\n

Around 20 Unite members employed in Goodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s London-based referencing department, which provides tenant checks for estate agents, had been on discontinuous strike since February 22.<\/p>\n

But on March 1 the workers escalated their industrial action to an indefinite strike, meaning they will not return to work until the dispute is resolved.<\/p>\n

The dispute centres on fire and rehire plans that would see the pay of Goodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s referencing staff plummet \u00e2\u20ac\u201c from \u00c2\u014124,000 to \u00c2\u014118,000.<\/p>\n

Goodlord is accredited<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0as a Living Wage Foundation employer. However the cuts would see Goodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s referencing staff earn less than the Foundation\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s London living wage of \u00c2\u014121,157.<\/p>\n

Referencing staff are the only workers employed by the company to have been singled out for fire and rehire attacks.<\/p>\n

Impacted workers have been told by the company that since they are now expected to work permanently from home after their central London office was closed in October, they do not need to live in London. This is despite having been originally employed on the basis that they lived close enough to the office to commute each day.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis dispute has already caused disruption to Goodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s clients, including Winkworth, Best Estate Agents, Andrews and Featherstone Leigh,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 commented Unite regional officer Steve O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Donnell.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIndefinite strike action means that service interruptions will now continue every day until this dispute is settled.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bGoodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s appalling attempts to use Covid as a cover to slash the wages and terms and conditions of its lowest paid staff is doing immeasurable damage\u00c2\u00a0to its reputation.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIn fact Unite has contacted the Living Wage Foundation to ask that Goodlord be removed from its website as an accredited employer, as these brutal cuts mean it no longer qualifies,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n

O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Donnell concluded, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite urges Goodlord to table an offer that our members can accept. Until that happens, strikes will continue indefinitely and Goodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s services and reputation will continue to suffer.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n
