{"id":28005,"date":"2021-03-04T17:32:02","date_gmt":"2021-03-04T17:32:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=28005"},"modified":"2021-03-04T17:32:03","modified_gmt":"2021-03-04T17:32:03","slug":"unite-win-for-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=28005","title":{"rendered":"Unite win for members"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Hestia Housing and Support workers have succeeded in their campaign to force their employer to pay the London Living Wage, Unite said today (Thursday 4 March).<\/p>\n<p>After a five-month campaign, in which union membership more than doubled and continues to grow, Hestia has pledged to increase pay to the Living Wage Foundation London-weighted wage of \u00c2\u014121,800.<\/p>\n<p>The Unite campaign was initiated after Hestia claimed in its policy and financial documents that it was\u00c2\u00a0paying employees the London\u00c2\u00a0Living Wage. This was despite\u00c2\u00a0some employees receiving a\u00c2\u00a0basic annual salary that was \u00c2\u0141400 less than the real Living Wage.<\/p>\n<p>Although Hestia has not formally admitted its mistake, a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098one off discretionary payment\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 equalling underpayment for 2020\/21 has been provided to nearly two dozen staff, as well as a permanent pay rise.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis campaign, without which the underpayment of staff would never have been exposed or dealt with, is testament to the hard work and solidarity of Hestia\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s unionised workforce,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 commented Unite regional officer Steve O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Donnell.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is also a perfect example of the benefits of joining Unite, which the increasing number of members at Hestia would agree with.
