London estate agents using services from Goodlord are\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0098facing further pain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c2\u00a0after striking workers from the\u00c2\u00a0lettings software provider were balloted for fresh industrial action over \u00c2\u01416,000 pay cuts.<\/p>\n

More than 20 members of Unite, employed in Goodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s referencing department have been on strike since February 22 over fire and rehire plans that would see their pay plummet\u00c2\u00a0from \u00c2\u014124,000 to \u00c2\u014118,000.<\/p>\n

Goodlord provides services for a number of estate agents in London, including\u00c2\u00a0Life Residential,\u00c2\u00a0Best Estate Agents,\u00c2\u00a0Andrews\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0Featherstone\u00c2\u00a0Leigh.<\/p>\n

The ballot for another round of strike action takes into account not just the pay cuts, but the dismissal and hostile targeting of union members while on strike as well as Goodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s use of agency labour during the industrial action. It opens on\u00c2\u00a0April\u00c2\u00a014 and closes on\u00c2\u00a0April 26.<\/p>\n

Singled out <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Referencing staff, who are the\u00c2\u00a0lowest paid at the company, are the only\u00c2\u00a0group\u00c2\u00a0of Goodlord’s workers\u00c2\u00a0to have been singled out for fire and rehire attacks.<\/p>\n

Impacted workers have been told by Goodlord\u00c2\u00a0that since they are now expected to work permanently from home after their central London office was closed in October, they do not need to live in London. This is despite having been originally employed on the basis that they lived close enough to the office to commute each day.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bGoodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s clients, including respected names such as Life Residential and Featherstone Leigh, would be appalled at the way the company is treating its lowest paid staff,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 commented Unite regional officer Steve O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Donnell.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThose clients\u00c2\u00a0are now facing further pain as\u00c2\u00a0Goodlord\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s refusal to treat its staff\u00c2\u00a0decently has led to the prospect of strikes well into the summer.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bNot only is Goodlord trying to subject its staff to the most brutal fire and rehire policy, one that would see pay plummet by \u00c2\u01416,000 to less than the London Living Wage, it has used the most underhand means to try and break this strike.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bStriking staff on fixed term contracts have been let go after Goodlord changed the deadline for them to sign new contracts. Meanwhile veiled threats about the impact of taking strike action on workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 future employment have been made. The Agency Standards Inspectorate\u00c2\u00a0is\u00c2\u00a0also looking into reports that the rules around the use of temporary workers during industrial action have been broken.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bGoodlord is dragging its own name through the mud by behaving so dreadfully to its lowest paid staff. This dispute will not end until the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s management comes\u00c2\u00a0to the table with an offer our members can accept,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he concluded.<\/p>\n

Unite general secretary Len McCluskey added,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u015bFire and rehire is ripping through our workplaces like a disease.\u00c2\u00a0Weak law lets\u00c2\u00a0bad bosses force through brutal changes to contracts, sometimes\u00c2\u00a0taking thousands of pounds off wages that families need to get by.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a disgraceful\u00c2\u00a0practice that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s outlawed in much of Europe and should be here. Unite is fighting for UK workers to be treated with the same decency. We won’t stop until the law is changed to protect working people from attack.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n
