{"id":28828,"date":"2021-05-05T15:30:20","date_gmt":"2021-05-05T14:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=28828"},"modified":"2021-05-06T10:01:30","modified_gmt":"2021-05-06T09:01:30","slug":"hopes-for-euro-hols-but-govt-support-vital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=28828","title":{"rendered":"Hopes for Euro hols \u00e2\u20ac\u201c but govt support vital"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Commenting on\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2021\/may\/04\/uk-travel-industry-shares-climb-as-hopes-rise-for-green-light-on-holidays-abroad\">reports<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0that popular European travel destinations will be added to a UK government \u00e2\u20ac\u0098green list\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 for holidaymakers by the end of June, Unite national officer for aviation Oliver Richardson said,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe fact that borders are set to reopen, and people will once more be able to venture abroad is positive news, both for\u00c2\u00a0the travelling public\u00c2\u00a0and those whose jobs are dependent on aviation taking off again.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe last year has been catastrophic for the aviation industry and certainty and clarity from the government on the path to reopening is vital if recovery for the sector is\u00c2\u00a0to be sustained.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWith continuing restrictions, even\u00c2\u00a0a best-case 2021 summer season will not be\u00c2\u00a0enough\u00c2\u00a0to get\u00c2\u00a0the industry back into the air\u00c2\u00a0without targeted government support.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhen families face paying hundreds of pounds extra for Covid-tests to leave and re-enter the country,\u00c2\u00a0it is critical that ministers\u00c2\u00a0make sure holidaymakers are not priced out of travel abroad.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bGovernment must also provide as much advance notice as possible\u00c2\u00a0of what restrictions will and will not be in place.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bDecisions on reopening routes\u00c2\u00a0and schedules\u00c2\u00a0will simply not be\u00c2\u00a0possible\u00c2\u00a0unless airlines and airports are given an adequate timeframe to prepare.
