{"id":29701,"date":"2021-08-06T11:51:24","date_gmt":"2021-08-06T10:51:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=29701"},"modified":"2021-08-06T11:51:26","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T10:51:26","slug":"rolls-royce-barnoldswick-demo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=29701","title":{"rendered":"Rolls-Royce Barnoldswick demo"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>A protest at the historic Rolls-Royce Barnoldswick plant will be held on Monday (August 9) at noon as strikes resume over the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s lack of concrete commitments to the site\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of 17 engineers began strike action in July after Rolls-Royce bosses refused to provide tangible commitments to new work or to suspend work being sent elsewhere, which is taking place at an accelerated rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A ballot for the site\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s entire workforce to join the dispute closes next Friday (August 13).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January, Rolls-Royce reached an agreement with Unite that guaranteed the future of the factory, including retaining a minimum of 350 workers and creating a training centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement was reached after workers and the local community mounted a huge campaign to save the factory, after the aerospace giant revealed plans to scale back production that would have spelled the plant\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a meeting in May this year, however, Unite was forced to issue a failure to agree notice with Rolls Royce after local managers indicated that staff headcount could drop below 350 and orders would continue to be completed abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite has been attempting to resolve the matter and seek reassurances about Barnoldswick\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s long-term future, which have so far failed to materialise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite regional officer Ross Quinn said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis dispute could be put to bed very quickly if Rolls-Royce\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s leadership demonstrate to the workers that the agreement signed in January is still valid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe were promised a green new deal but all we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen is corporate greenwash,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Fan blades that would be transported from Lancashire to Derby will now go via Singapore. No green tech, no training school to compensate, just disaster capitalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe staff, and indeed the community\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s surrounding Barnoldswick, know full well that Rolls-Royce\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s original plans would have seen the factory close for good,&#8221; Quinn continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bAll they want to know is whether a Rolls-Royce guarantee means anything.
