{"id":29845,"date":"2021-09-07T16:28:26","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T15:28:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=29845"},"modified":"2021-09-07T16:28:37","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T15:28:37","slug":"our-members-stood-firm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=29845","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Our members stood firm&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Further strike action at an historic Shropshire wheel factory has been called off after workers voted to accept an improved pay offer from the company, Unite said today (September 7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite members employed at GKN Wheels and Auto Structures in Telford voted for strike action in June over the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s refusal to implement a pay rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following negotiations with the company, the workers voted to accept improved two year pay deal, which will benefit around 200 staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The historic factory, which is more than 100 years old and produced Spitfire planes during the Second World War, was bought by private equity firm Aurelius in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The factory has no connection with GKN Automotive where Unite is currently fighting a factory closure in Birmingham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite regional officer Jason Richards said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members stood firm and following the threat of sustained collective action achieved a pay deal that reflected their hard work and dedication to the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis dispute is a reminder that workers who want to improve their wages and T&amp;Cs should join Unite,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite is dedicated to advancing the jobs, pay and conditions of its members and will fight back against any efforts to diminish workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 living standards.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>By Ryan Fletcher<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Further strike action at an historic Shropshire wheel factory has been called off after workers voted to accept an improved pay offer from the company, Unite said today (September 7).
