{"id":3157,"date":"2015-03-02T17:07:42","date_gmt":"2015-03-02T17:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=3157"},"modified":"2015-03-02T17:08:45","modified_gmt":"2015-03-02T17:08:45","slug":"workers-treated-contempt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=3157","title":{"rendered":"Workers treated with contempt"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Milk distribution to supermarkets could be disrupted in the north of England over the Easter holiday, if the pay and conditions of a group of drivers is not protected by their new employer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe 100 drivers are on the brink of taking strike action and\/or industrial action short of strike, after Arla Foods, a dairy company based in Leeds, decided to TUPE transfer the drivers to Moran Logistics, also in Leeds.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nUnite and the GMB condemned Arla\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s refusal to supply financial information justifying the transfer, as well as Moran Logistics\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 refusal to recognise the two unions for collective bargaining purposes on behalf of the drivers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe drivers are set to be transferred on Sunday (March 8) and the two unions intend to serve notice of strike action or industrial action short of a strike the following day (March 9).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nUnite national officer for road transport Matt Draper said if the drivers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 new employer didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get around the negotiating table, disruption of milk supplies in the region could be extensive and affect such major retailers as Tesco, Aldi, Asda and Morrisons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nDraper argued that the drivers, who\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d provided years and years of loyal service, were being \u00e2\u20ac\u015bdumped by Arla.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe company has repeatedly refused to share with the two unions the financial information to support its decision,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe continued refusal to supply this data endorses the joint unions\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 belief that pay and conditions will be attacked once the transfer has been completed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bMoran Logistics refusal to recognise the unions strengthens this view further,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nDraper condemned the behaviour of both companies involved, saying that they have \u00e2\u20ac\u015btreated their workers with utter contempt.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nGMB regional officer Rachel Dix said that after Arla\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s refusal to release key financial information about savings generated by the transfer, they could only conclude that pay and jobs would be on the line.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nStay tuned on UNITElive for the latest on the dispute.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Milk distribution to supermarkets could be disrupted in the north of England over the Easter holiday, if the pay and conditions of a group of drivers is not protected by their new employer. &nbsp;
