{"id":3581,"date":"2015-04-09T11:26:03","date_gmt":"2015-04-09T10:26:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=3581"},"modified":"2015-04-09T11:26:03","modified_gmt":"2015-04-09T10:26:03","slug":"oil-deal-jobs-alert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=3581","title":{"rendered":"Oil deal: jobs alert"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>As the announcement of a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098mega merger\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 between Royal Dutch Shell and exploration firm BG came yesterday (April 8), Unite has warned against crude cost cutting and job cuts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe merger might be one of the biggest deals of the year and could potentially produce a company worth an eye-watering \u00c2\u0141200bn.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nBut with Shell\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s North Sea operations already facing a raft of job cuts and the two companies talking of the need to achieve \u00e2\u20ac\u0098synergies\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, the union has sought urgent assurances over jobs, terms and conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bNorth Sea oil and gas is in the grip of a concerted attempt by the offshore industry to impose a race to the bottom on jobs, terms and conditions,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite Scottish secretary Pat Rafferty.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bPeople are already paying with their livelihoods because the big oil companies failed to put aside money for a rainy day when the sun was shining and oil prices were high,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis mega merger should not be built off the back of crude cost cutting and further job cuts which would only serve to be counterproductive over the long term.
