{"id":3592,"date":"2015-04-09T16:27:40","date_gmt":"2015-04-09T15:27:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=3592"},"modified":"2015-04-09T16:27:40","modified_gmt":"2015-04-09T15:27:40","slug":"end-non-dom-status-call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=3592","title":{"rendered":"End non-dom status call"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Ed Miliband and Ed Balls launched their policy on scrapping \u00e2\u20ac\u0098non dom\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 tax status (April 8) to ensure that super-wealthy individuals can no longer avoid paying tax in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There has been much talk about a so called \u00e2\u20ac\u0098gaffe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 by Ed Balls following a BBC interview in January where he is recorded as saying this policy \u00c2\u00a0&#8220;would end up costing Britain money&#8221; because people would leave the country. But he goes on to say \u00e2\u20ac\u015bwe should be tougher\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But Ed Miliband has quite rightly dismissed claims that this quote undermines Labour\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s pledge to get rid of non-dom status.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since January the party has worked hard to find a way to abolish it that would not lose money, something that has been confirmed by independent experts, so it wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t a gaffe at all. Surprise, surprise; more Tory propaganda in the media.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Guardian<\/em> has a good leader on the policy\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c they say \u00e2\u20ac\u0098Good Riddance- and you can read why they think that here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2015\/apr\/07\/guardian-view-on-scrapping-uk-non-dom-loophole-good-riddance\">G<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2015\/apr\/07\/guardian-view-on-scrapping-uk-non-dom-loophole-good-riddance\">ood riddance<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And have a look at this clip of Richard Bacon (Tory MP candidate) at the Public Accounts Committee who was furious with a representative from HMRC: \u00e2\u20ac\u015bYou\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re surprised that people think there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s one set of rules for the rich and one set of rules for someone else when you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve just told us exactly that there is\u00e2\u20ac\u0165\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6.have a listen for his pay off!\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=AAdqimz4rXU\">Watch Richard Bacon at the Public Accounts Committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Robert Peston\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s blog is also worth a read on whether or not the super-rich would leave; like most of us, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-32217578\">he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sceptical<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So it seems we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not the only ones who agree this is a good and workable policy; many independent voices agree with us.
