{"id":3595,"date":"2015-04-09T17:36:42","date_gmt":"2015-04-09T16:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=3595"},"modified":"2015-04-09T17:36:42","modified_gmt":"2015-04-09T16:36:42","slug":"sham-consultation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=3595","title":{"rendered":"Sham consultation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>A public consultation on train service cuts in Northern Ireland has been called a sham by Unite, with Translink providing only 12 days for the public to respond, well below the typical 12 week period.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe consultation follows a similar exercise on bus service cuts, which provided only four weeks for the public to respond.<br \/>\nThe move by Translink has caused Unite rail and bus workforce reps to gather early next week to agree on an industrial action strategy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nUnite regional officer with responsibility for Translink workers, Davy McMurray, called the consultation nothing more than a \u00e2\u20ac\u015brubber-stamping exercise designed to provide political cover for damaging austerity cuts to our public transport schedules.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nMcMurray noted other aspects of the consultation that proved Translink\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s disingenuousness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bRather than coming out with clear proposals and seeking an engagement with the travelling public on the basis of specific proposals, Translink\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s questionnaire asks a series of \u00e2\u20ac\u0098leading\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 questions which are clearly designed to justify their, as yet unspecified, plans for rail service cuts,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nMcMurray explained that, much like the bus service cuts consultation, the present consultation has deliberately restricted access to information from the public.
