{"id":4700,"date":"2015-07-08T14:20:58","date_gmt":"2015-07-08T13:20:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=4700"},"modified":"2015-07-08T14:20:58","modified_gmt":"2015-07-08T13:20:58","slug":"drug-firm-workers-to-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=4700","title":{"rendered":"Drug firm workers to strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Workers at the United Drug Sangers NI are set to take their first day of strike action on Wednesday, July 15, after members rejected a management pay offer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Large majorities endorsed the 24 hour stoppage, which is likely to result in disruption of medical supplies to pharmacies and medical centres.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe failure of management to make a genuine pay offer has led to the collapse of pay negotiations and forced Unite to ballot our members for industrial action,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite regional officer Sean Smyth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both warehouse workers and drivers were balloted for strike action, with warehouse workers voting 79.3 per cent in favour and drivers voting in favour almost unanimously \u00e2\u20ac\u201c by 97.7 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bTurnout in both ballots exceeded 70 per cent reflecting the high degree of determination among workers to secure a fair deal on pay,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Smyth noted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members have made a huge contribution to the success of this company,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSangers posted almost \u00c2\u0141mom profits last year, an increase of 73 per cent on the previous year; a result that placed Sangers 27th in the top one hundred NI companies.
