{"id":4732,"date":"2015-07-09T16:07:40","date_gmt":"2015-07-09T15:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=4732"},"modified":"2015-07-09T16:07:40","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T15:07:40","slug":"grimsby-seafood-factory-safe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=4732","title":{"rendered":"Grimsby seafood factory safe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite welcomed today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (July 9) decision by Young\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Seaford to focus production at its Grimsby sites in a move that secures 500 jobs and the future of the threatened Marsden Road factory in the town.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While workers in Grimsby were relieved at the news, there was a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098bitter sweet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 edge to the announcement, which sees Young\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Fraserburgh and Spey Valley sites earmarked for closure after the loss of a vital Sainsbury\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s contract.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sainsbury\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s is set to transfer its smoked salmon and fresh salmon contracts away from Young\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s to Marine Harvest in November 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite represents members in Grimsby\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s three Young\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Seafood factories which employ a total of 2,000 workers. The union has no members at the Fraserburgh and Spey Valley sites which are earmarked for closure.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe decision by Young\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s to invest in Grimsby and secure over 500 jobs is welcome news and testament to the skills of the workers at the town\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Marsden Road site,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite regional officer Dave Monaghan.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bYoung\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s is a major employer in Grimsby and workers, local businesses and the community will be relieved that the company will continue to invest in the town.
