{"id":4957,"date":"2015-07-24T16:00:46","date_gmt":"2015-07-24T15:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=4957"},"modified":"2015-07-27T15:06:31","modified_gmt":"2015-07-27T14:06:31","slug":"pregnant-mums-are-still-losing-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=4957","title":{"rendered":"Pregnant mums are still losing jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>More than 50,000 women are losing their jobs every year as a direct result of maternity discrimination in the workplace, a new report reveals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The shocking figures are part of an in-depth survey, released today (July 24) by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, which found that 10 per cent of women are discouraged from attending antenatal appointments by their employers, one in 20 women have received a cut in pay after returning to work and one in\u00c2\u00a0five have experienced harassment or negative comments from colleagues and bosses during or after pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The survey of 3,200 women also found that one in 10 felt treated worse by their employer when they returned to work after having a baby, and 7 per cent reported they were put under pressure to hand in their notice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When mothers were granted permission to work more flexibly, half said they received fewer opportunities at work or felt their opinion was less valued.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/owa.unitetheunion.org\/OWA\/redir.aspx?SURL=aLHzhXZvVf2OQan_SfvYNf3GiE-QjDiOetdhHQn96QYDgTc8OJTSCGgAdAB0AHAAcwA6AC8ALwB3AHcAdwAuAGMAaQB0AGkAegBlAG4AcwBhAGQAdgBpAGMAZQAuAG8AcgBnAC4AdQBrAC8AZABpAHMAYwByAGkAbQBpAG4AYQB0AGkAbwBuAC8AdwBoAGEAdAAtAGEAcgBlAC0AdABoAGUALQBkAGkAZgBmAGUAcgBlAG4AdAAtAHQAeQBwAGUAcwAtAG8AZgAtAGQAaQBzAGMAcgBpAG0AaQBuAGEAdABpAG8AbgAvAHAAcgBlAGcAbgBhAG4AYwB5AC0AYQBuAGQALQBtAGEAdABlAHIAbgBpAHQAeQAtAGQAaQBzAGMAcgBpAG0AaQBuAGEAdABpAG8AbgAvAA..&amp;URL=https%3a%2f%2fwww.citizensadvice.org.uk%252\">laws being in place<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0to protect women against such discrimination, the survey found that discrimination has worsened drastically over the past decade, with the number of jobs women have lost because of unfair treatment doubling in the last ten years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The survey revealed that some groups of women who face maternity discrimination are treated more badly than others.
