{"id":5357,"date":"2015-08-26T17:51:27","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T16:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=5357"},"modified":"2015-08-26T17:51:27","modified_gmt":"2015-08-26T16:51:27","slug":"intervene-before-its-too-late","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=5357","title":{"rendered":"Intervene before it&#8217;s too late"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite called for government action to help Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s steel industry as Tata Steel announced it would be mothballing its Llanwern steel mill with the loss of 250 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (August 26) job losses follow last month\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s announcement by Tata Steel to cut over 680 jobs in Rotherham and Stocksbridge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Warning that high energy costs and cheap imports were threatening the future of the industry in the UK, Unite urged the government to intervene and support skilled jobs and manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Commenting, Unite acting national officer Harish Patel said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis is yet more devastating news for the steel industry and the communities that rely on steel for employment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s current \u00e2\u20ac\u0098leave it to the market\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 attitude will result in the destruction of the steel industry and destroy skilled jobs in the UK.
