{"id":5602,"date":"2015-09-11T16:11:34","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T15:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=5602"},"modified":"2015-09-11T16:11:34","modified_gmt":"2015-09-11T15:11:34","slug":"protect-your-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=5602","title":{"rendered":"Protect your vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite has expressed grave concerns over Tory plans to speed up crucial legislation to voter registration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The campaign group <em>Hope Not Hate<\/em> is warning that as many as two million voters will be wiped off the electoral roll when the proposed reforms take effect in a matter of weeks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Under the new system people must register to vote individually, rather than being registered as part of a household or university group. Those who have not re-registered are now set to be removed from the list before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Biggest disenfranchisement<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The union believes the government is engaged in the \u00e2\u20ac\u0098biggest disenfranchisement in British history\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 with the aim of gaining political advantage because lost voters will predominately be in deprived communities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The London borough of Hackney will be worst hit, with a staggering 23 per cent of its electorate set to lose out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Across the capital the figure is seven per cent, and eight per cent in Birmingham.
