This was, said Jane, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bthe very structure that would underpin and lay the foundation for what is mentioned in this motion.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nJane added, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe need an end to austerity. We want to see investment in our economy, including in skills and infrastructure.\u00c2\u00a0 And we want to see an active industrial strategy from government.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThis, and the involvement and representation of workers, was necessary if we are to secure decent work for all, with good pay.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nBut, she went on, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bin recent years we have seen the further growth in insecure, precarious work \u00e2\u20ac\u201c exemplified by the rise in zero-hours contracts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is the latest stage in what has been a steady decline in the proportion of wealth in our economy that goes to the people who generate that wealth.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nAll this comes against the \u00e2\u20ac\u015bvery serious attacks on trade union rights in the trade union Bill.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nJane explained that Unite supported the motion in calling for a culture change in our workplaces, for greater trade union involvement and for sector specific industrial strategies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBut that involvement has to be meaningful,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 she stressed.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThere are serious attacks on our trade union rights \u00e2\u20ac\u201c we don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to see a race to the bottom.
