{"id":5904,"date":"2015-10-02T13:20:47","date_gmt":"2015-10-02T12:20:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=5904"},"modified":"2015-10-02T15:12:16","modified_gmt":"2015-10-02T14:12:16","slug":"len-says-wear-red","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=5904","title":{"rendered":"Len says wear red"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite general secretary Len McCluskey is asking members and staff to wear red on Friday, October 23, in support of Show Racism the Red Card.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s anti-racism educational charity which uses the high-profile status of football and players to help tackle racism.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The date sits alongside activities and celebrations to mark Black History Month 2015 and also falls within the annual \u00e2\u20ac\u0098Fortnight of Action\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in Scotland and Wales.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI am extremely proud of the positive and productive working relationship that Unite has established with SRtRC over a number of years,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said McCluskey.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI very much welcome the joint initiatives we have worked on with them to take their work to our members,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SRtRC chief executive Ged Grebby said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bFriday October 23rd is a great opportunity for Unite members to demonstrate their commitment to equality and to show their support for Show Racism the Red Card.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBy wearing any item of red clothing on the day, even red socks, you can help us raise awareness and much needed funds to fight racism and help unite our communities.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As part of the joint working Len has written to all members to ask them to support \u00e2\u20ac\u0098Wear Red Day\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 to help raise awareness of the work that SRtRC does and raise some much-needed cash to fund their anti-racism projects.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To take part \u00e2\u20ac\u201c wear something red and donate \u00c2\u01411 to the cause.
