{"id":6064,"date":"2015-10-01T16:09:56","date_gmt":"2015-10-01T15:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=6064"},"modified":"2015-10-01T16:09:56","modified_gmt":"2015-10-01T15:09:56","slug":"jobs-blow-for-printers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=6064","title":{"rendered":"Jobs blow for printers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Telephone book printers RR Donnelley is set to close at the end of the year with a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bdevastating\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 loss of about 200 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite is due to have talks with the management at the Flaxby plant in rural North Yorkshire in a bid to secure as many jobs as possible and to ascertain the causes for the closure.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Bitter blow<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The union\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s regional officer Chris Daly described the news as \u00e2\u20ac\u015ba bitter blow for the workforce and their families as well as the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThese are well-paid jobs that are under threat and won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be easily replicated in rural North Yorkshire,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Best deal<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe are due to have a meeting with the management next week with a view to securing the best deal possible for our members\u00e2\u20ac\u0165, Daly added. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bObviously, we would like to secure all the jobs under threat.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Based in York until 2001, the company was famed for printing the Yellow Pages from the 1930s.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As Daly explained, RR Donnelley, has diversified in recent times.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe company prints telephone directories for the UK and foreign markets.
